We are the Knights (that’s pronounced phonetically - cuh-nig-its - as of the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail) Who Say Cyclic, a group of High School students, all of whom attended 6thgrade at Challenger School. At Challenger, we each gained not only a respect of the English language but also the want to change the world. Our noble mission is to improve America, one step at a time – primarily by improving the U.S.’s tongue and correcting false ideas about how its government functions. Another Opportunity for a Medal!

And this time, Laga doesn't have to be the only winner! You weaklings (in a nice way) have a chance!!!!
The deal is this - watch the movie Waiting for "Superman," and you will get a Medal. The show is a documentary - but don't let that stop you because it isn't boring at all - about the failing public school system in America, how we could theoretically fix it, and why it's so hard to fix it. As a Knight you should feel obligated to watch it. In fact, I really shouldn't be offering a reward, but it can't hurt. Ready, set, go.
And plus if you refuse to watch it I will secretly blackmail you. I know where you live. Yes, all of you.
Especially Innocent Smiles,
Sol

  1. Sidenote especially for Laga and Mira - today I found two written artifacts from 8th grade! One was a lengthy collection of random exercises, which I will work on typing up for you. The other was that list of quotes from ourselves, maybe you remember it, that we compiled... I'll type that up too and email them.

  3. 'Sup fellow knights? I like you guys, haha.
I watched that movie as soon as it came out. Absolutely phenomenal. I actually got a bit emotional over it. My family had to opt out of private school simply due to financial struggles. Attending a charter school was the first time I've ever felt as if my future was up to fate. For the first time, I couldn't hand over a check to get my way. The lottery is the hardest part about charter schools and seeing how many of those kid's names didn't get drawn was heartbreaking. I was fortunate to get into Maeser, but not everyone has that luxury.

  4. Bonjour, Sol and Whitley! Sol, I have been at a beach island in Korea with no internet access and an immense back, arm and leg problem. I'm in pain :'( But it's great to hear from you! I was wondering when you were going to rant on the blog again :P

  5. Whitely - thank you for that comment! I couldn't agree more. I understand that the school system has immense problems that need to be solved (largely, high demand and low supply), but I can't believe that the lottery is really the best way to deal with them =( Definitely our country needs to be spending more time working out a solution.
Mira (Yes, I'm still calling you Mira) - In pain on a beach island? That's no fun =( I'm very sorry. You know, I wouldn't HAVE to rant if you guys put the blog a little higher on your priority lists!!! Grr.

  6. I got acupuncture today! :D On my back, shoulders, and legs. It actually didn't hurt too bad. ^-^ But I have to go back tomorrow :/ The beach island was interesting... it was mostly chasing my little cousins around all week. I'm going into English Village for my internship on Sunday by the way, so I won't be able to post very often for a month, if at all. And I'm sorry that I put my sanity before the blog. -_- I post whenever I can.

  7. Acupuncture! Cool. Do you enjoy it???
Great, an internship. That's a good experience to have... =)
That's okay, you don't have to apologize, Mira. If anyone needs to apologize, it's kind of Laga, much Baldr, and overwhelmingly Odin.

  8. Yes, Sol. I definitely enjoyed getting needles stuck all over my body -_- Hahaha actually, it doesn't hurt too badly! The internship is CRAZY. All of the other interns (besides my sister) are in college. I'm not allowed to sleep until 2 am after putting the kids to sleep, and then I wake up at 6 am in order to wake them up. But the kids are really funny ^-^ even if some of them are goofs. (In a nice way)

  9. Haha, you lil youngun. Four hours of sleep each night? Fun! But the internship can go on your college application, right? =) Heehee. I'm sorry for you... but a great experience it is! Lots of people are goofs. And not always in a good way...
But really, tell me about the oysters!!!

  10. Yeah, it's fun ^-^ But the rain in Korea was so bad that it caused a flood. Lot's of people lost their homes. English village was a RIVER, and the staircases were WATERFALLS. The internship is a good experience ^-^ Am I a goof in a good way? :D

  11. Oh, floods =( too bad.
And about your goofiness... no comment. =P

  12. Hey, on the subject of this post (which, to remind you, was the documentary "Waiting for 'Superman.'" It discussed the declining public school system in America, and offered up charter school as a possible solution.) Now, anti-Waiting for 'Superman' groups have made an opposing documentary called "The Inconvenient Truth about Waiting for 'Superman.'" It argues that charter schools are not the way - or, pushing aside public schools is not the way - and may in fact cause MORE problems. I haven't seen "...Truth..." yet but still, interesting to say the least. Thoughts anyone? Whitley?

  13. Not so simple OR easy when you're half way across he world on an internship -_-

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, yeah. But Mira, you are an excellent example for those who AREN'T halfway across the world on an internship. Seriously Baldr/Laga/Odin, if MIRA can keep up, why can't YOU?!?!

  15. I apologize. I neglect to keep up with all of the blogs I follow and I completely forgot to return to this conversation.
Regarding the new documentary, I think I'd have to watch it before I put my two cents in, but it sounds a little absurd. Anyone who's reviewed all of the statistics comparing Public schools and Charter schools knows that more beneficial and effective. I'll have to watch it and get to back to you guys.

  16. ...knows that *charter schools* are more...

Proofreading. It's important every now and then. Haha.

  17. =) Thanks again for joining us, Whitley.
I don't suppose anyone else has watched "Waiting for 'Superman' "? Really, it's worth watching.
