Through the Looking Glass

Out of curiousity, have you all read this book? I started reading it online in English class due to being excused from the test for my disadvantage of having missed a day because of illness. It was very entertaining, and I vaguely remember someone (I believe Evan Airs?) In fourth grade pronouncing it as "creepy". Any opinions?

  1. 1. It's Evan AYERS.
    2. I do not remember him calling it creepy.
    3. Do YOU think it is creepy?
    4. That book is by Lewis Carroll right?
    5. I think Laga's read it.
    6. I have not read it.
    7. Is The Walrus and the Carpenter related to that book, or is it just another random poem by Lewis Carroll?

  3. I APOLOGIZE for spelling his name wrong. Geesh. ^-^ And I remember him saying that. No I do not think it is creepy. So far. Yes it is by Lewis Carroll, and the Walrus and the Carpenter is a poem that is told to Alice by Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

  4. And I am your HERO? Have you hit your head lately, Sol? And how hard, exactly? Hahaha just kidding. Of course I am. XD

  5. Some people think it's creepy because it's written based on malice - literally, that's the theme of the whole book. Any kids who have a mother with Borderline Disorder or know anyone like that can't stand Alice in Wonderland because they are able to relate to the emotions. Considering it was written to be a children's book, I'm gonna throw in my two cents and say that it's rather disturbing.

  6. I have not read it, I think. I am bugged by any Lewis carrol that isn't poetry, though. I guess I just have a higher bar for my suspension of disbelief in poems. So I am in the quandary of loving Carrol's poems, and disliking his books, or pretty much anything based on them. Most of the experience I have with it is Disney's animated adaption, which I dislike vehemently. But that's just my opinion.

  7. Whitely, you have intrigued me about this book... I shall have to read it myself sometime.
Laga, you have a "higher bar for your suspension of disbelief in poems?" Interesting. I wonder why that is... and nice use of the word "vehemently." =)
    And Mira... =P

  8. Laga, you hate disney animation? Interesting. Whitely-Hi! Nice to meet you. :) As for the topic, I'm interested to hear that Lewis Carrol's books are so disturbing. I only read the first few chapters of Through the Looking Glass, and those I thought were quite good. Hm. I agree that as a children's book, however, it is creepy.
